So I caught DPW in action cleaning up graffiti. This is them scaling up the Holton bridge to clean up 3-4 little tags at the top of the bridge that nobody without a trained eye will see.

So thats your DPW budget right there Milwaukee, cleaning off tags and killing the smallest form of expression under a bridge that nobody pays attention to.

Waiting for Kelsey to pick me up. There’s a lady that just pulled her beat up minivan into a handicap parking spot. Wearing an “I love Jesus” cap, her purpose seems to be eating McDonald’s French fries. She keeps glancing at me, standing against the wall, deeply involved with my phone, squinting my eyes against the sunlight. I wonder if she knows I’m watching her. Maybe she’s making a rambling blog about me.

Ojo de Dios. I made this a long, long time ago. I found it while visiting my mom recently and took it to hang above my bed. The God’s Eye is symbolic of the power of seeing and understanding that which is unknown and unknowable, The Mystery. The four points represent the elemental processes: earth, fire, air, and water. I took my very first visit ever to Niagara Falls (and Tom’s first trip out of the United States!) a few days ago for a much needed vacation.

I am not a tourist. I like to explore. Niagara Falls is absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. But it is so much more than three waterfalls.

Tom and I spend our first day walking around and down and taking a boat into the Falls. We found Murray the Moose, and I gave him a kiss.

Our second day, we went exploring. If you ever go to Niagara Falls, drop $14 on the WeGo 48-hour bus pass ($7 if you go before tourist season starts. Second tip for Niagara Falls, go in the off season). The WeGo bus took us everywhere we needed to go, including back to our hotel. The Red Line even took us out of the tourist area and to a tiny, hole in the wall brewery and restaurant that I fell in love with.

Syndicate Restaurant and Brewery on Lundy’s Lane at Dorchester. The food is fresh, local, and hormone-free. All important things to me. They brew their own beer. I ordered the Taps Chestnut Porter, which had a nice, dark pour. Creamy, chocolatey, coffee, nutty. Delicious. Tom ordered the Taps Vanilla Wheat, which had some hops and some cloves and a touch of vanilla. I finished it for him. I had heard this restaurant had the best wings, and I was not disappointed. We polished them off before our lunch arrived and, let me tell you that my shaved beef and brie sandwich with truffle horseradish aioli on an onion kaiser roll was just to die for.

Moving on from the food and beer, we stumbled into a small park on Queen Street where we found a water molecule sculpture, we stared at the art on the walls of Pulp Comics, and we just really spent that entire day wandering around doing nothing and seeing everything. Action through Inaction. Wu Wei. Ok, I also wandered into the Ten Thousand Buddha Temple, which was right next door to our hotel.

Sunday night, we saw the waterfalls illuminated. And by “saw”, I of course mean “stared at it forever and held hands and it made the cold night beautiful”.

It really was a wonderful trip. I highly recommend it.

Eat at The Dairy Barn. Milan, MI.

Tom and I stopped by a tiny ice cream stand while walking back to our hotel from dinner. I saw this review displayed in tbsp window while I waited in the parking lot for my cookie dough ice cream.
