So when this religious nut figured out the Rapture date and time, did he take into account the Bible wasn’t written in the United States, and that Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Jordan, etc. have different times from us? They didn’t have time zones and time changes back then? Pluto isn’t a planet anymore? Leap years? His own mental status?
Sometimes, on the Twitters, I mention my #kjbcoworker. There is a fun story behind this I won’t go into, but picture a 63-year-old woman with a thick Russian accent, who plays a somewhat mothering role to me in my work environment. This is one of my case managers. I’ve been with her a little over 2 years now. She is very focused in her work—driven. Scary, at times.
I love her.
Keep this all in mind as I tell you that tonight, at 10:33pm, I received the following text from her:
"In case the world will end tomorrow just want to say goodbye."
I need you all to know why I am cracking up on my couch right now.
(5:53:05 PM) M****: 10 year old is doing some poli sci project for school (5:53:10 PM) M****: ask opinions on a proposed law (5:53:25 PM) M****: this one is everyone under 18 should by law wear a bike helmet when biking or skating (5:53:30 PM) M****: I said no (only parent who did) (5:53:41 PM) sarah: I say no too. (5:53:47 PM) M****: he didn’t get that I’ll decide if it is required (it is for him) but won’t be told it is. (5:54:07 PM) M****: everyone else wrote for the reason (that you have to give to teach them) “safety first” (5:54:30 PM) M****: which is stupid because safety is never first. it is why people rush into buildings on fire to save people. (5:54:42 PM) M****: if safety was first the speed limit would still be 25 (5:55:10 PM) sarah: we should probably just outlaw bicycles. think of the safety of the children (5:55:22 PM) M****: indeed (5:56:27 PM) sarah: we should probably just play it safe and outlaw anything that can be related to personal responsibility (5:56:39 PM) M****: and outlaw sarcasm too (5:56:44 PM) M****: ok have to go to dinner. (5:56:54 PM) sarah: I’m outlawing dinner (5:56:58 PM) sarah: you might choke
Talking to a co-worker today. Sad about the loss of a friendship. It’s upsetting to put so much into a relationship, and then be tossed aside in the blink of an eye.
"You put so much into it; what did you get out of it?"
I… had no answer. It’s been bothering me all day. A fun companion? Some laughs? Someone who shared some common interests? Someone I could sit with and be happy with no talking involved at all? Someone I could just be my quiet self around?
A fucking good friend is what I had.
I thought. Maybe it was one way the whole time and I was too wrapped up in my ability to be a good friend to see it.
